Hi,
Now since the forum application seems stable after the upgrade I thought it will be a good time to layout some posting guidelines that will help the members to post effectivealy in Getbhavcopy Forums.
Step 1: Search before you post.
This is an extremely important step as it will help you find a faster solution to the issue you are faceing. There is a very high probability that the issue you are faceing has already been posted in the forums and has already been answered. If you search you can get the answer/solution right away rather than to wait for someone to reply to your duplicate post.
Also note that most people tend to ignore duplicate posts, hence please search the forum before you post.
Step 2: Decide where to post.
Assuming that you searched (i.e. step 1) the forum for the issue you are faceing but did not find an acceptable answer then you come to the next important step of deciding where to post. The answer to this is simple.
- In your search, if you found a topic/thread that discusses the same or related issue that you are faceing then you can post in the same thread.
- If you did not find any related thread in your search then you should start a new topic.
One particular example of this is the thread "NSE and BSE historical data in Metastock format" on my forum. If you notice the thread most of the users have posted issues which are not related to original topic of "NSE and BSE historical data'. The issue with this is that most users will not read your issue and hence this delays you getting a good solution quickly.
Step 3: Make the post.
If you have decided to post in an existing thread then, make use of the 'Post Quick Reply' section at the bottom of the post thread.
If you have decided to start a new topic then browse to the appropriate category under "Getbhavcopy Forums" and click the 'New Topic' button. Ensure you select an appropriate title for your post. Example a title "Ticker symbol error while BSE data import" gives a better idea then 'Help me'.
Step 4: Using the Rich Text Editor
The rich text editor is extremely simple to use. You can increase the size of the typing area by draging the bottom right corner as shown in the figure
There are multiple text layout options and settings on the top that help you create rich text post. They are as follows
Bolds the text
Converts the text to italics
Underlines the text
Strikes the text
Increases the font size
Decreases the font size
Bulleted List
Numbered List
Increase Indent
Decrease Indent
Left Align the text
Center Align text
Right Align text
Change Font or font style
Change text colour
Reset styles applied to the text.
Create a hyperlink to a URL (read Step 5: Attaching Attachments)
Add a smiley image
Remove the hyperlink from the text
Insert Image (read Step 6: Attaching Images)
Advanced HTML editor (do not use this)
Step 5: Attaching Attachments (General Attachments, excluding images)
There is no facility to attached an attachment directly to the post as of now. However you can follow this process to upload your files to rapidshare and then create a link to that file in the post
- Login to Rapidshare Collecter's Zone
- Login as getbhavcopyusers
- Pass getbhavcopy123
- Upload the file you want to attach to the post.
- Once the file is uploaded it will give you a URL to share with others.
- Create a Hyperlink
in the post to that URL, so that users can download it from Rapidshare.
Step 6: Attaching Images (Images only)
To show images in the post you will first need to upload the images to Photobucket. Once done it will provide you a direct link that you can use with the Insert Image option.
- Login to Photobucket.com
- Login as getbhavcopyusers
- Pass is getbhavcopy123
- Click the "Choose Files" button to select the image files from your computer to be uploaded to Photobucket. Ensure that 'Reduce to' dropdown is set to 640x480 (large) only.
- Once the images are uploaded you will see the image thumbnails, below the thumbnail is the 'Direct Link' to that image. Copy that link completely.
- To insert this image into your post, use the 'Image Insert' option, and paste the 'Direct Link' you copied above to the dialog box that opens.
- You will see the image in the text area
