Hi...    For all the stocks we are getting Open Interest.

However Open Interest is not possible in case of Indices. Hence you are adding market capitalisation as volume (for indices) and open interest as nil (for indices).

The problem is once I use the CONVERT command and merge the datas into metastock, the values for the volume field are wrongly being added.

I compared the downloaded "Bhavcopy.txt" and checked this with metastock index data sheet...  There is always a difference in the last 3 digit values...

I mean, for eg., if the nsedefty volume is 25678951, but the converted value shows as 25678846.

Though this error wont affect our charting, I dont understand the reason for such a technical issue. This is happening daily.  Somebody please check and find out whether you get the same problem????

Hi Guy,

Good observation. Looks like some issue with the Metastock Downloader utility. Will analyse this furthur and see if there is any change i can do in Getbhavcopy to overcome this. For now technically I do not have a rationale to explain this behavior of Downloader utility.

hi hemen one small request.  Please check out the issue yourself whether what I reported is correct or not.. Afterwards instead of providing Zero "0", kindly replace all those places with One "1".

I think this will solve the issue and a value of One in place of Zero wont be misguiding.

Please check this up before implementing in your next release updates (if you plan so).

Hi,

How would a value of 1 be less misleading then 0?

I believe 0 is a more elegant approach where it can mean that the data does not exist or is not applicable.

A value of 1 does not give the picture of the data not exsiting, in fact it portrays a completely wrong picture that the data exists and is actually 1.

Comments any one ?

I found this error happens only in case of the indices.    And we all know there is no open interest in case of indices.

So we all (using our common sense) wont think of a value "1" as open interest for indices. I hope our fellow analysts wont try to interepret a value of "1" for these indices.

Mr. Hemen, I agree to your point  I believe 0 is a more elegant approach where it can mean that the data does not exist or is not applicable

But the issue in hand is, when Open interest is "0" in case of indices, the volume figure is taken wrong. I dont find a reason behind why "The Downloader" is behaving like this. That's why I make this request.    rolleyes

I request all our friends kindly check whether this issue occurs for you also while converting in "The Downloader", or this something happening only in my machine

Hi,

I dont think the issue is with the value of 0 or 1. I believe the Downloader is creating this issue because there is nothing after the Volume field. My theory is that if i put ,0 after the volume it should be ok.

I am done with the code fix, but office work is getting too hectic for me to do some testing to release the new version.

Thank you very much ya....    I am not asking you to correct it and release a updated version immediately      Please have this in mind while you make any major changes and do plan to release another edition.

HI Guy,

I tried with with a value of 0 and 1 both for Open Interest. In both cases there is a very little discrepency ( i.e. + or - 5 ) between the value in the txt file downloaded by Getbhavcopy and the imported value in Downloader.

I am still confused why downloader is behaving that way, but since there is not much difference between a 0 and a 1 I decided to implement OI as 0 for all NSE incides.

Hey... Thank you so much yar. I feel very happy. I just pointed out a small technical error and you immediately incorporated in your revised software version among many others.

What makes me more happy is your mentioning me in the release note.       ha ha...

All the best and thank you so much for your help for all of us -trying to be technical analysts.

My pleasure. the intent is to motivate the users of Getbhavcopy to participate more on the Forums and to provide suggestions on new features they want in Getbhavcopy. I do not promise to implement all but definately will implement those that are inline with my vision for the software.
