First of all thank you Hemen bhai for making GBC.

I have two technical questions about GBC.

1) Why does it download the symbol files from NSE's website. If I am not mistaken we just need two files the bhav.csv (now bhav.csv.zip) and the .dat file (for getting open interest).

What is the use of downloading the symbol files like ind_niftylist.csv etc, are those symbols used in some calculation somewhere.

2) Why are you calling "/marketinfo/indices/histdata/historicalindices.jsp" page sending the required dates then reading the results from the html tables returned instead calling for example

http://www.nseindia.com/content/indices/histdata/S&P%20CNX%20NIFTY04-12-2009-04-12-2009.csv

and getting the result directly.

I think GBC can run much faster compared to its current speed with these changes.

P.S - I am new technical analysis, still in the learning stage, when I start making profits from TA, I will surely donate some amount for this amazing program.

1. The ind_niftylist.csv and other files as such contain constituent stocks of symbiols. It is needed to calculate volumes for indices.

2. The csv files cannot be accessed directly. It can be accessed only after you have first requested it and its presented in HTML table.

Hi, I have gone through the forum and resolved the symbol error while updating the data into the metastock format through the downloader(by ticking the enable output header) ,  but still there is a problem i am not able to update the data while converting the data by using downloader the convert status window appear in which it shows no. of errors and no. of warnings , then so many no. of errors and warning occur, when it finishes and i check the chart, it dont get updated with the new prices. the NSE data is fine and it goes updated without any error while converting it. but in nse it shows error, i have downloaded the rar files first and the data from 2-1-09 to 31-12-09 to update the database. but while converting it to meatastock format it shows error... plz..help.. I shall be very very thankful to you.

Pradeep,

Your last post is also bit confusing without any technical details/screenshots of the issue. Please provide addtional details. From whatever i understand from the post there is something wrong with the way you are importing the data. Not sure exactly what is the issue.

Did you read this http://www.getbhavcopy.com/importingtometastock.htm
