Getbhavcopy: Free NSE and BSE data downloader

Blog Post New Entry

Getbhavcopy version 2.0.7 released

Posted by Hemen on December 4, 2009 at 10:49 PM

Over the past three days Getbhavcopy users have not been able to download NSE Equity EOD data because NSE changed the way it provides the csv file. The CSV is no longer provided as clear text but is provided in a zip file. Hence Getbhavcopy was getting 404 error when it tried to download the CSV file for the past three days.

This zip logic has been incorporated in Getbhavcopy version 2.0.7 and data download should be fine now.

Moreover some users reported that they are having issues downloading data from www.nse-india.com (which was used by Getbhavcop version 2.0.6 and earlier) but everything was fine when they try to download from www.nseindia.com. In version 2.0.7 all NSE server links have been updated to www.nseindia.com.

So have you been feeling frustrated over the past three days when Getbhavcopy was out of service?

If so then i believe you have understood the true worth of this utility and I hope you will be inclined to make a small donation for the support provided.

Checked by downloading the NSE data for 2nd March 10. As suspected the volume figures for the original data (downloaded earlier) & that for the one downloaded today do not match.

Here's the line for NSE500 from the original file
NSE500,20100302,4170.35,4198.35,4158.65,4192.30,539866092,0

& from the one downloaded today
NSE500,20100302,4170.35,4198.35,4158.65,4192.30,541767938,0

As can be seen the volume figs do not match. The data for rest of the indices (where there are also no error messages) match perfectly though.

Requesting Hemen to look into what might by causing the problem.
Thanks.

Today while downloading some past data i'm getting the following error :-

Message Downloading symbols for index NSE500
Warning Index symbols file for NSE500 did not generate expected elements

This happens with more recent (last wk) data too The NSE500 index OHLCV values are there though, in the downloaded txt file, but not sure if the volume calculations are getting affected due to the error.

hello hemen i just started today on 2/2/2010.as anew to technical analysis i just feal that there is a demand for complete charting software where there shold not be any technical complication regarding datadownload(eod). and that's to with comfotable rate. one such software is chartnexus 2.4.1 at chartnexus.com. it is a free software with autometic datadownloader for nse and bse eod data.if any one can develop such software for more feature will be a great.

I downloaded historial data of nse in metastock format. And unzip and transfered to metastock data but cannot see the historical data on chart. It is just showing old date of recent price.

Please guide me
